Last night’s episode of Below Deck Down Under sank to the ocean’s seabed. That said, it’s good to find the positive in every sticky situation. So, as I watched, I found a few favorable moments to cling to, courtesy of four capable yachties who showcased the right amount of sass, heart, grit, and, dare I say it, wisdom, at various points in this episode.
And now, I want to give credit where it is more than due today, because after scouring the internet, I learned that I am not the only one majorly annoyed with how this episode played out. To these four yachties ONLY, I raise thee my morning coffee, and I thank you for not going down with the ship that was Episode 10.
Betul remains the perfect Below Deck Down Under cast member

Bless her drama-free heart, deckhand Betul Yazici never gets any screentime. Last night was no exception. But does she care? Probably not.
Instead, Betul is just there to do her job and build her career, while, sometimes, offering us little breadcrumbs about her upbringing in an incredibly archaic system. As Betul explained in Episode 4, “Growing up, the dynamics in my family were not stable. I never felt like I had a father. He was married to three women at the same time and was narcissistic.”
She continued, “My mom left when I was 9. There was a physical cycle of violence, so now I don’t talk to my parents. But I teach myself everything.” And that is exactly what we have seen Betul doing all season long. From the way she’s approached her language barriers to the ease with which she avoids the petty drama, this writer will always adore Betul.
Not shockingly, last night, Betul once again understood the assignment. As the yacht descended into chaos, we saw Betul literally holding hands with a guest, jumping off the yacht into the ocean. This scene only lasted a handful of seconds, but it was enough to make her guests and fans alike briefly smile, and for that, I salute Betul.
Daisy clocked an underhand comment from Alesia

Daisy Kelliher has her work cut out for her this season. In Episode 1, which seriously feels like a lifetime ago, she lost one of her stews to an emergency at home. She has also been sharing one of her crew members with the deck team. Needless to say, Daisy has had to pivot multiple times.
But pivoting is hard to do when you are literally working with Tweedledumb and Tweedledumber. Speaking of, last night, Alesia Harris created all kinda of unwatchable drama on BDDU. Per usual, she once again interfered with a boatmance (actually two, this week) while fighting with her male twin in the interior. But right when viewers’ frustrations likely started peaking with Alesia last night (speaking for me), Daisy checked in with a short but sweet sentence that made fans chuckle.
To recall, during their night out, Daisy correctly called Alesia a “junior stew.” But Alesia, a literal new stew, hated that. She tried to explain that she had “earned her stripes,” so she deserved a lot of credit for working underneath someone younger than her. But as Daisy clocked, Alesia “only has one stripe,” so, hush.

Chef Ben stayed in to avoid confrontation with Ellie

At first, Chef Ben Robinson and Elena “Ellie” Dubaich got along well enough in the galley. But as the weeks progressed, Ellie grew upset with Ben. He was starting to take breaks, leaving her alone to clean and organize the galley. He was also using various pet names, which she understandably hated.
Ellie spoke with Ben about the break issue in Episode 9, but not the name issue. Then, during a pretty labor-intensive dinner shortly thereafter, Ellie snapped when Ben called her yet another pet name, leaving Ben pretty confused. After she snapped, Ellie flew out of the galley in a rage to find Captain Jason Chambers, which their guests saw. It was, overall, a very bad look for Ellie.
Thankfully, Ellie owned this mess online as this episode aired, but, back in the moment on TV, she and Ben are still at odds. So, this week, Ben decided to give Ellie “some space” by staying on the yacht. Instead of watching yet another verbal brawl, we got to see Ben and Captain Jason in their robes, eating steak and bonding. It was, for me, the highlight of this week’s rather dismal episode.
Jenna wanted to stay out of “competition” with other BDDU girls

That brings us to Jenna Woudberg. She is Daisy’s second stew, much to the weird chagrin of her lesser-skilled counterparts. That mess aside, this season, Jenna and Eddy Hounsell have been getting along rather well. But Alesia also likes Eddy, so whenever Eddy shows Jenna any attention, Alesia interferes, even though she already has a whole man of her own back at home.
I mean, she doesn’t anymore. But during filming, she sure did.
Regardless, as strong as Jenna is, she has already forgiven Eddy for flirting with Alesia once. But this week, when Alesia sank her claws back into Eddy on the dance floor, Jenna broke down in tears, seemingly realizing that this was a game she might never win. This all absolutely sucked to watch. But Jenna’s heart was apparent several beats later in the sprinter van.
In tears, Jenna cried, “I just don’t want to be in competition with my girls.” Overall, her heart is a good one. She hates this junk just as much as we all do. And for that, we also salute Jenna for making BDDU Season 4 Episode 10 somewhat worthy of watching.
Below Deck Down Under is streaming on Peacock. BDDU airs on Mondays at 8/7c on Bravo.
