Biblical site where Jesus 'walked on water' discovered after 2,000 years

Archaeologists have unearthed portions of the location where Scripture records Jesus "walked on water."

'The Sea of Galilee' is a body of water situated in northeast Israel, where an ancient fishing settlement called Capernaum once existed along its northern coastline. Those familiar with Scripture will recognize the lake as the focal point for Jesus' ministry following his departure from Nazareth, where he conducted numerous miracles including calming a fierce storm and curing the ill.

Researchers have now revealed sections of the harbor that formerly linked the biblical settlement to the lake. Dropping water levels have exposed portions of the ancient Roman dock built from lines of enormous stones and containing separate berths where fishing boats could anchor, reports Daily Star.

The Israel Nature and Parks Authority stated the discovery offers a remarkable glimpse into the maritime environment that Jesus and his fisherman disciples would have experienced and traversed.

Dr. Hagay Dvir, the tourism development manager at the Israel Nature and Parks Authority, noted: "For the first time, we can speak of Jesus' maritime activity on the Sea of Galilee, and not only of His works on land."

While there's no proof Jesus used this specific dock, experts suggest the port could have hosted vessels comparable to those referenced throughout the New Testament.

The New Testament documents that Capernaum witnessed many of Jesus' most celebrated miracles. The Gospels describe how he cast out a demon from a man inside the town's synagogue, before going on to cure Peter's mother-in-law of a severe fever and treat countless sick and afflicted people who were brought to him after nightfall.

Jesus is also reported to have healed a paralyzed man who was lowered through the roof of a crowded house, as well as the gravely ill servant of a Roman centurion.

Matthew's Gospel recounts another miracle in which Peter caught a fish with a coin in its mouth after returning to Capernaum, allowing both him and Jesus to pay the temple tax.

The town is also closely associated with Jesus' walk on water. John's Gospel records that the disciples were traveling toward Capernaum when they saw Jesus coming toward their boat across the turbulent lake.

Yet the Bible doesn't specify the precise location where he walked on the water or came ashore. Declining water levels in the Sea of Galilee helped uncover the ancient pier in November 2025, revealing more of the structure to observers.

The find is now attracting fresh attention after video footage resurfaced online, leaving viewers amazed by its connection to the biblical period of Jesus.
