LaRoyce Hawkins is set to exit Chicago P.D. during season 14

Hawkins debuted as Officer Kevin Atwater in the 2014 series premiere

The actor will appear in the first three episodes of season 14, a source told Deadline

LaRoyce Hawkins is saying goodbye to Chicago P.D.

The actor, 38, is set to leave the NBC police procedural as a series regular during season 14, PEOPLE confirms. Deadline was the first to report the news.

Hawkins' departure comes after his 13-season run on the series as Officer Kevin Atwater. He will appear in the first three episodes of the forthcoming season to wrap up his character's storyline, a source told Deadline.

A representative for Chicago P.D. declined to comment.

The Chicago P.D. star is the latest original cast member to leave the show, following Jesse Lee Soffer (Jay Halstead), who departed in 2022, and Tracy Spiridakos (Detective Hailey Upton), who exited in 2024.

Atwater worked alongside fellow elite officers Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Fleuger), Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati), Dante Torres (Benjamin Levy Aguilar) and Eve Imani (Arienne Mandi) as part of Hank Voight's (Jason Beghe) Intelligence Unit.

Season 13 of Chicago P.D. saw Atwater reconnect with Officer Tasha Fox, played by Karen Obilom. After realizing their undeniable chemistry, the two quickly turned from friends to lovers. Their relationship was shaken when Tasha moved to Miami for a new job, but not without an invitation for Atwater to join her.

When Tasha returns to Chicago, she finds herself back at Atwater's door, pregnant with their first child. With the news of her pregnancy, Chicago P.D. fans can assume Atwater may be heading to Miami to be with Tasha and their baby.

Speaking to PEOPLE for the 2025 Sexiest Man Alive issue, Hawkins reflected on his time on the show and expressed his gratitude for his character.

"I've had some great roles over time and I've been able to learn from all of them in different ways," he said, "but the longevity and the consistency that I've been able to create with learning from Kevin Atwater has really strengthened my confidence more than anything."

"The nature of the role being a first responder, being the only Black cop in the unit, it's a combination of so many things that, honestly, really contributes to feeling very confident and grateful in my skillset over time," Hawkins continued. "I think the longevity on this show has allowed me just the time and the space to just learn and grow. And I feel so much more confident and comfortable on camera now."

Chicago P.D. season 14 premieres on Wednesday, Oct. 7.
