The Home Edit's Clea Shearer opened up about the "liberation" she feels to wear "what I want" after having a double mastectomy

"For too long, I have hid my body," the Netflix star wrote in a candid Instagram post

Clea Shearer is dressing for herself again.

The Home Edit founder, 44, opened up about finally feeling liberated to "wear what I want" after surviving breast cancer. Shearer was diagnosed with stage 2 invasive mammary carcinoma, an aggressive form of breast cancer, in 2022. She was declared cancer-free in November that year and has since undergone over 10 reconstruction surgeries, including a double mastectomy and implant removal.

In a candid Instagram post shared on Wednesday, July 1, the star of Netflix's Get Organized with the Home Edit said that she has a new perspective on wearing dresses this summer.

"Welcome to the summer I decided I don't give a f--k," she began in the caption.Shearer continued, "For too long, I have hid my body behind short sleeves, high necks, and button-downs because I didn't feel confident enough to wear dresses that showed my breast abnormalities. Well … nothing like a heatwave across New York and Europe to put four years of avoidance right down the tubes where it belongs."

Shearer went on to explain that her newfound "liberation" and "confidence" has changed her for the better."I don't just feel okay with the way I look, I feel PROUD of the way I look," she said. "So excuse me while I go find some flowy summer dresses with tiny straps because I have a new wardrobe I need to amass."

Shearer previously shared her thoughts on feeling confident in a dress in a May Instagram post.

"I've spent many months trying to buy clothes that would hide the fact that I haven't had a right breast since last October," she wrote in reference to the results of her 15th surgery in October 2025, which was done to treat an infection.

She further explained, "The concept of a summer dress was harrowing, and I've gone through tons of options that don't work with a bra and prosthetic. And the other day, I just said eff it, I'm going to wear what I want. So I did."

Putting on a dress for the reality star and mom was "freeing" and felt like "winning the lottery."

She added, "Because it hasn't just been since October, it's been since I was diagnosed with breast cancer in March of 2022. I've been trying to fit a square peg in a round hole the entire time. And after 4 years, I finally decided…. I really don't care. In fact, it's everyone else's problem if they are uncomfortable with the way I look. I'm just going to be easy breezy with a glass of champagne all summer long."

The photo shows Shearer in a light coral scoop-neck dress with fluttery sleeves and a floral pattern.

In September 2025, she spoke with PEOPLE about why she's gone through with her procedures to rebuild her breasts despite the trauma it has caused. “I have now lived three years with compromised breasts. At this point, I'm not looking to be in a bathing suit competition,” she said. “But for me there's a real need to put my body back together. It's an emotional need more than a physical one.”
