Couple Say They Were Locked in a Toyota Dealership After Buying a New Car

A couple has taken to TikTok to say that he recently went to a dealership to buy a brand new Toyota, and then they somehow ended up trapped inside the dealership. It might sound like the stuff of fantasy, but it really did happen.
In a video that has over 63,000 views at the time of writing, TikTok user Ana (@_ana_alcala) stated that she and her husband had bought the car and were very pleased to have done so. Yet for some reason, somebody had locked the gate to the dealership on them.
The video shows that it is clearly dark outside, and that the gate to the exit of the dealership is firmly shut. They are standing with their new purchase, and there is just no way they can drive out of the parking lot. Ana was perplexed as to how this could have happened.
“My husband got a car, and they didn't realize we were still in the parking lot, I guess,” she said. “And they locked us in," she added. We have all probably been locked out of some places, but maybe not a car dealership.
What Actually Happened to the Couple?
The couple had gone to a Toyota dealership to buy a new car and had happily sorted out a deal for the car they wanted. From the short video, they must have done so quite late in the day, given that it was now dark outside and the parking lot looked very quiet in the video. It was only when they began to leave that they found the gates had been locked.

Now they were only barriers, so the couple could walk out of the dealership and get back home, provided it wasn't far. They'd just have to park their cars at the dealership overnight. But it would still have been frustrating for them to be ready to leave only to find out they couldn't take their new purchase home.
It is clear to see that the video has nearly 70,000 views. It is an unusual situation, yet it is understandable. Dealerships are naturally going to lock the gates to prevent theft, preventing thieves from driving out with one of the new cars. It stops people from driving vehicles in as well, to then take parts off cars in the lot to steal. You might not be able to stop everyone, but locking dealership gates is a simple and smart move.
The Lock-in Prompted Some Jokes on TikTok

Back to the couple's predicament, it was clear that it had caused a few jokes in the comments section of their TikTok video. “You can’t just get a car; you have to pay for it,” said one commenter. “This happened to us on Friday. We had to call our sales guy lol,” another one said. Another user mentioned how they got stuck at a Honda service center, but that it actually worked to their benefit.
“I took my Honda in for service, and they didn’t realize I was in the waiting area and closed up service. They apologized and didn’t charge me for the service," they said. One other comment said, “I guess you’ll have to park and take an Uber home."
Frustratingly, the video doesn't show what happened next and how the couple got home. But we like to think they got back okay and recovered the cars the next day.
