‘Deluded!’ Conservatives Go Nuts on ‘The Odyssey’ Star Anne Hathaway for Unearthed Speech Ripping ‘Whiteness’

Right-wingers on social media this weekend have been skewering The Odyssey star Anne Hathaway over a resurfaced clip of a speech she gave eight years ago.

The speech is from when Hathaway received the “2018 National Ally for Equality Award” from the Human Rights Campaign.

“With the exception of being a cisgender male, everything about how I was born  has put me at the current center of a damaging and widely accepted myth,” Hathaway said. “That myth is that gayness orbits around straitness, transgender orbits around cisgender, and that all races orbit around whiteness. And it is a myth that keeps money and power in the hands of the few, instead of being invested in the lives of the free.”

Hathaway said she “rejected” the myth and — with the help of her comrades — was working to “destroy” it.

The initial clip posted on July 22 has 1.7 million views as of this writing, to go along with millions of other views from accounts which have re-posted it.

And most of them seem to be completely disgusted with Hathaway. Conservative pundit and radio host Buck Sexton was one of them, posting “imagine being so narcissistic and deluded that you’d say something like this in front of a crowd because you think it makes you sound wise and virtuous.”

Right-wing influencer Link Lauren wasn’t a fan, either.

“Anne Hathaway talks about ‘money and power’ as if she’s not one of the highest paid actresses and benefits from pretty privilege,” he posted. “You also don’t have to apologize for being straight, white, rich and beautiful. No one cares.”

Marketing professor Gad Saad posted a 6 minute video breakdown of the Hathaway clip, saying it was a prime example of liberal Hollywood elitism and stupidity.

“Did you enjoy her self importance, her smugness, her being wrong about every conceivable syllable that she mentioned? And with such haughtiness,” he said. “Her community is enlightened, while the rest of us plebs, the great unwashed, the rubes, simply can’t extricate ourselves from our small, myopic minds.”

Elon Musk also weighed in:

“She’s just reading the script someone else wrote,” Musk said. “No critical thinking is happening here at all.”

Hathaway was mocked by others on the right as well:

Fox News anchor Tomi Lahren bashed Hathaway as well, saying the speech was a “self-righteous lecture” and the opposite of being “brave and bold.”

If you search Hathaway’s name on X, you’ll find plenty of other examples.
