Beulah's world is crashing and burning.

In the season 1 finale of Dutton Ranch, the truth about 10-Petal Ranch is finally revealed, leaving Beulah (Annette Bening) and both of her sons, Joaquin (Juan Pablo Raba) and Rob-Will (Jai Courtney), at risk.

But the ranch's dirty business being exposed also poses problems for Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Rip (Cole Hauser), who have tied themselves to Beulah's sinking — and illegal — ship.

Amid the chaos, Mariano (Raoul Trujillo) arrives from Mexico after a panicked call from Joaquin, which only adds more fuel to the fire.

So what happened during Dutton Ranch season 1, episode 8? Here's a breakdown of everything that unfolded.

Why is Beulah smuggling drugs in cattle from Mexico?

After 10-Petal ranch-hand Austin (Sterlin English) revealed to Beth and Rip that Beulah has "an operation down in Mexico that steals and smuggles cattle in illegally," they find out for themselves that she truly is crooked. They intercept her cattle shipment and find packages of drugs embedded inside the animals, and then Rob-Will arrives. He alerts Beulah immediately to what's happened.

At the same time, Mariano, Joaquin's biological father, arrives at a local motel and is informed about Beth and Rip's new involvement in the business.

A disappointed Everett (Ed Harris) was the one to confront Beulah, after Beth and Rip called for his help getting the drugs out of the animals. Beulah told him that she was raped when she was 16, by Rob-Will's father, who she then shot and killed, with Mariano's help. When her father found out she was pregnant, he forced Mariano to take the blame and disappear to Mexico. In exchange, the family would take care of Joaquin.

Mariano didn't come back into Beulah's life until decades later, when he stepped in as a saving grace amid the drought. She told Everett that the agreement was supposed to be "temporary," and just a way to "keep the lights on," but that was 15 years ago. "I made a terrible mistake," she confessed.

After confessing to Everett, Beulah returned home to find Mariano at her door. He demanded that she reinstate Joaquin as heir to 10-Petal instead of Rob-Will, and that she remove Beth and Rip from the operation.

Right afterwards, she called Rob-Will to warn him that Mariano was in town, who immediately went behind her back and called Mariano to reveal that Beth and Rip had found out about the drug smuggling.

Is Oreana pregnant?

After taking a pregnancy test, Oreana (Natalie Alyn Lind) learned that she's expecting. Her panic over the discovery was evident, though it was never revealed who the father is.

Beth also arrived just moments after Oreana took the test, asking if she'd seen Carter (Finn Little) recently. He was Oreana's next visit, and she found him hiding out at Dwight's house, but she didn't mention anything about the pregnancy to him.

Instead, she suggested that they run away together, and he agreed.

Does Rob-Will die?

Joaquin was given a direct order by his father to kill his brother, Rob-Will. The execution happened moments after Rob-Will shared a rare moment with his daughter, Oreana, who was in her room packing a bag to run away with Carter.

Rob-Will apologized for not being a good father figure, told her he loved her and said she's the only good thing left of the 10-Petal Ranch. They hugged, and the moment was interrupted when Joaquin knocked on the door.

After assuring Oreana that everything was fine, Rob-Will walked to the front door and was shot in the head by Joaquin. Oreana came running at the sound of the gunshot and collapsed in sobs over her dead father's body. She stayed there until Beulah came home and found her son in a pool of his own blood.

Do Beth and Rip find Carter?

Beth and Rip spend much of the finale making desperate attempts to get in touch with Carter, who won't answer their calls after he left the house and said he needed space from them. Given what they learned about Beulah's business, they both fear for Carter's safety. Their anxiety heightens when Mariano calls Beth and makes it clear that he's hunting both her and Rip.

As Rip, Azul (J.R. Villareal) and Zachariah (Marc Menchaca) prepare the ranch for a gunfight, Beth goes looking for Carter, again, to no avail. With the help of Everett, Rip and his ranch-hands successfully defend the ranch from Mariano's men, but their problems don't end there.

"You ever get that feeling, right here, that the world is gonna open up and swallow everything that you love?" Beth asked Everett as she cleaned blood off their patio. "I've had it so many times, I've lost count. I was right every time."

Her intuition proved to be right. Carter was found at Dwight's house by Mariano's men, knocked out and placed in the back of a truck. Beth then got a call from Mariano, who made his threat clear: "I have your boy," he told her.

She let out a blood-curdling scream and ran to get Rip. "They have him. They have Carter," she told him.

“They don’t want Carter, they want us,” Rip said, to which Beth declared, “Then they’re gonna f—ing get us.”
