Just like clockwork, the New York Jets finished their preseason with a matchup against the New York Giants. At the time of writing, the Jets were down 10 in the fourth quarter and had only scored once.

For that score, UDFA RB Chip Trayanum, who was making plays before the touchdown, fought his way into the end zone. This was a really good drive from the rookie and, in preseason, could be a deciding factor in making the roster.

Sadly, later in the game, Trayanum was carted off at the end of the first half with an apparent neck injury.

After the injury, Trayanum had to leave the stadium and was taken to the hospital right away due to its severity. According to reports, Trayanum is awake, has movement in his extremities, and is alert. Given the fear brought on by a neck injury, this is excellent news.

Throughout preseason, Trayanum has made an impression on the coaching staff. A potential roster spot was not out of the question for the UDFA.

With this injury, Trayanum’s future in the NFL is up in the air, but his health is really the focus right now. After the injury, support poured in for Trayanum from fans and analysts alike.

Another was shocked by the severity of the injury: “Jesus Christ. Hope he’s okay fr.”

One account noted how hard Trayanum was fighting for his spot on the roster and how unfortunate the timing of the injury was: “Hate to see this in the preseason, respect to the kid for putting his body on the line for a roster spot.”

Another person similarly said, “Damn man. Praying hard”.

A Detroit Lions fan also sent their prayers to Trayanum: “Prayers up for him, man”.

This was a very scary injury for Trayanum, but it’s great news that he seems to be alert and has movement. Hopefully, the UDFA can bounce back healthy, cement a place on the roster, and be ready to go when Week 1 rolls around.
