Kat Dennings kind of forgot she's a member of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Dennings, 40, opened up on the July 29 episode of The Jennifer Hudson Show about her momentary blip. At the time, she, her husband, musician Andrew W.K., and their stepchildren were on a trip to Disneyland.
“When I'm not working, I don't think about it. I'm really just living and not thinking about it,” she said. “And we were going through Avengers Campus, which is a part of Disneyland. And everyone was waving at me and I was like, ‘Everyone is so friendly. ‘Everyone is in the best mood because it's the happiest place on Earth.' ” She happily waved back.
“Then my husband was like, ‘Are you okay?' And I was like, ‘Oh my god, I'm in these movies! I forgot!' I completely forgot that I was like part of the Marvel universe and that people were waving at me,” she said.

Dennings made her MCU debut in 2011's Thor. She played Darcy Lewis, a research assistant to astrophysicist Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who eventually gets her doctorate in astrophysics. She also returned for 2013's Thor: The Dark World. On TV, she's appeared in multiple episodes of What If...? and had cameo appearances in 2021's WandaVision and 2022's Thor: Love and Thunder.
Dennings said that in Avengers Campus, they have “Black Widow walking around” and she realized, "They think I'm like pretend Darcy Lewis.” At the time, she was wearing a flannel shirt, glasses and a hat — just like Darcy.
“I was like, ‘I look just like Darcy Lewis.' It was so stupid. I'm so dumb,” she said, but she really doesn't “think” about it.
“I don't think I'm that famous,” she said. “I think if you hear my voice, you're like, ‘I've heard that in a rerun at like 2:00 in the morning somewhere.' I enjoy the relative peace of my life. I feel good about it.”

Dennings actually posted about her MCU confusion in April 2025. She wrote on Threads, “I went to Avengers Campus at Disneyland and people were waving at me and I forgot why. I genuinely forgot why.”
Dennings isn't the only MCU star to forget about their on-screen appearances. In 2019, Gwyneth Paltrow, who played Pepper Potts in multiple films, forgot that she had a cameo in 2017's Spider-Man: Homecoming. At the time, director and actor Jon Favreau had Paltrow, 53, as his guest on his cooking series The Chef Show.

Favreau mentioned the pair had both appeared in Spider-Man: Homecoming. “Spider-Man?” Paltrow said. “We weren't in Spider-Man.”
“Yes we were. You were in Spider-Man,” Favreau, 59, said.
“No, I was in Avengers…” Paltrow said.
“No, you were in Spider-Man also,” he said. “Remember, Spider-Man at the end and Tom Holland's there and you're gonna walk out and do a press conference? And I give you the ring?”
“Oh, yes. That was Spider-Man?! Oh my God!” Paltrow said. Paltrow later admitted that there are “so many Marvel movies” and she hasn't “seen very many of them.”
Dennings, who starred on 2 Broke Girls from 2011 to 2017, currently stars on ABC's Shifting Gears. The show's third season will air in 2027.
