- Lin-Manuel Miranda announced the cast for his upcoming film adaptation of Dave Malloy's musical *Octet*.

- Rachel Zegler, Amanda Seyfried, Jonathan Groff, and more impressive actors will appear in the film.

- Miranda confirmed rehearsals have begun on the project.

The cast for Lin-Manuel Miranda's movie musical *Octet* has been announced, and no doubt Broadway fans are very, *very* happy.

On Tuesday, Miranda shared the cast list for his film adaptation of Dave Malloy's chamber choir musical, which explores digital addiction and the search for human connection in the internet age. The show features eight characters and is performed a cappella, meaning there is no musical instrumentation.

"*Octet* Movie Cast List," Miranda shared via Instagram alongside a photo of a rehearsal sign-in sheet listing the actors and their characters.

Amanda Seyfried is Jessica, Rachel Zegler is Velma, Sheryl Lee Ralph is Paula, Phillipa Soo is Karly, Gaten Matarazzo is Toby, Jonathan Groff is Henry, Tramell Tillman is Marvin, Paul-Jordan Jansen is Ed," the *Hamilton* creator added. "Rehearsals have begun."

Miranda revealed earlier this month that he would be taking on the project, his second feature directorial effort following 2021's Jonathan Larson movie musical *tick, tick…BOOM!*, starring Andrew Garfield.

“I haven’t stopped thinking about *Octet* since I saw Annie Tippe’s premiere production in November of 2019. Dave Malloy’s score is versatile, brilliant and grows more relevant with each passing year. It won’t leave me alone so here we are,” Miranda said, according to *The Hollywood Reporter*.

He added via Instagram at the time that he was "working on adapting this with Dave for the past six years."

"Now we get to make the movie," Miranda shared. "And what a joy to officially partner with Julie Oh, my ride-or-die in the movie business since *tick, tick…Boom! *Thank you to everyone on our team at 5000 Broadway for their work in making this a reality."

Original 'Hamilton' cast to reunite at 78th Annual Tony Awards, ahead of 10th anniversary

Two of the castmates, Groff and Soo, worked with Miranda as original company members of *Hamilton*. Soo played Eliza Schuyler Hamilton to Miranda's Alexander Hamilton while Groff portrayed King George III.

*Octet* also comes on the heels of musical projects for other cast members, including Zegler, who just took home an Olivier award for her role in *Evita* in the West End, and Seyfried, who received critical acclaim for *The Testament of Ann Lee*.

*Abbott Elementary*’s Ralph will make a return to the musical genre after originating the role of Deena in *Dreamgirls* on Broadway, as well as appearing in shows like *Thoroughly Modern Millie*, *Wicked*, and *Goosebumps The Musical*. Matarazzo recently starred in *Sweeney Todd *and wrapped the hit Netflix series *Stranger Things*.

Although he is best known for Apple TV's *Severance*, Tillman started his career in several Broadway and Off Broadway productions, including *The Great Society*. Jansen has appeared on Broadway in *Sweeney Todd* and *And Juliet*.

"[I] feel so honored to have such a beacon of the musical theatre world bring this piece into a new life," Malloy said in a previous statement. "As a brilliant storyteller, fellow internet junkie, and dear friend, I know he's going to make something amazing. And our cast is completely ridiculous."
