Lina Esco says she and costar Ben Affleck had a serious case of the giggles while filming intimate scenes for their new movie, The Rip.
The actress, 40, caught up with PEOPLE exclusively while on the red carpet for the action thriller’s New York premiere at Alice Tully Hall on Tuesday, Jan. 13. During the conversation, Esco — who plays Captain Jackie Velez in the film — said that bedroom scenes with Affleck, 53, often resulted in goofy fun and “dorking around.”
“We were giggling,” Esco recalled. “We were just two dorks, dorking around.”
“Ben is just such a sweet man and easygoing, it's just easy,” she continued, adding, “Sometimes you don't run into people that are easy, and I can honestly say it just felt [like an] easygoing set energy, which is very rare.”

She went on to say that Affleck, along with the entire crew, fostered an extremely welcoming and positive on-set experience.
“I would say just the energy and the tone on set was very lowkey, very down to earth,” she said.

“There was nothing pretentious about anyone, it was just easy. And so is the director [Joe Carnahan]. He just made sure everyone was comfortable at all times, played soundtrack music at all times, pushed you into the tone and the mood of the film. And at all times it felt like you were in the movie — and again, [a] very cozy, loving set.”

The S.W.A.T. actress added that she knew she wanted to be a part of the project — which also stars Matt Damon, Teyana Taylor, Kyle Chandler and Steven Yeun — the moment she read the script.
“The script when I first read it was incredible. I was like, ‘Oh my God. I want to be in this movie.’ And then obviously you have to go and get the role and it was a few tryouts,” she explained.
Esco said she ended up having a Zoom call with the director, which she described as an “incredible” experience.
“It was love at first sight. It was like 'Wow.' And he said, 'Come and join me on this journey.' I never knew it was going to be like this — and here I am. And when I went to see a first cut of the film I was in love. The movie is amazing. I'm not just saying that, I usually will be like [tsks], but I wholeheartedly will tell you it's a great movie,” she added.
