The Brandywine Conservancy & Museum of Art – a colorful destination in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, that attracts Delaware art lovers – revealed it has a $100-million project to expand and remodel its 15-acre campus.

Here are some highlights of what the project includes.

Fans of the museum can expect to find a new 40,000-square foot building designed by the Japan-based firm Kengo Kuma & Associates. It will mark the first time the architects created a museum building in the United States, per press materials.

Plans also call for a renovation of the Brandywine Museum of Art's historic Mill building.

Field Operations, a landscape architectural firm in Philadephia, will lead the landscape design of the expanded campus into a 325-acre garden and public reserve with 10 miles of trails between the two museum buildings.

"When completed, the new trails will create a loop through the changing landscape between both museum buildings, as well as the original studios of N.C. Wyeth and Andrew Wyeth," according to press materials.

How much money has Brandywine raised?

The Brandywine has raised almost 50% of approximate project costs, which points to early support from donors.

Construction is slated to start in spring 2027, and the new building is set to open in fall 2029.

“Since our founding in 1967, our vision has been to ‘preserve the land that inspired so many artists,’” Virginia Logan, The Frolic Weymouth executive director and C.E.O. of Brandywine Conservancy & Museum of Art, said in a statement.

“As we approach our 60th anniversary, this campaign fulfills that founding vision at a transformative scale," Logan added.

"We're creating an experience of quiet elegance where light-filled spaces connect you to the surrounding preserve — where visitors move from contemplating American art in our galleries to walking the landscapes that inspired it, understanding through this journey how art, nature, and conservation exist in enduring harmony.”
