Pat McAfee awkwardly apologized to Caitlin Clark for ripping his shirt off live on ESPN’s College Gameday, where the Indiana Fever star was acting as the celebrity guest picker.

Gameday was at Iowa for the Hawkeyes game against No.5 Ohio State on Saturday afternoon, and used the opportunity to bring Clark back to her Alma Mater. Clark, who threw out signed shoes to fans earlier in the programme, went with Iowa State to beat West Virginia, and was booed by Hawkeyes supporters for doing so. It comes days after Clark's Indiana Fever suffered a disappointing end to the WNBA season, losing to the Las Vegas Aces in the playoffs.

When it came time to the final game, Clark got the fans back on her side by going against the grain - and betting odds - to pick the Hawkeyes. She said: “You guys know who I’m picking. We’re gonna have Julian Sayin’ rattled today, stadium’s gonna go crazy, everyone better be loud. I’m going Hawkeyes.”

When McAfee made the final pick of the show, he ripped his shirt off while talking to the crowd, but suffered a rather awkward wardrobe malfunction.

Having either not taken off his cufflinks or not undone his wrist buttons, the shirt stayed on his hands as he wriggled and thrashed himself around, trying to get it completely off.

Eventually, he stood on the body of the shirt and ripped upwards, with either a button or cufflink flying over the desk as he finally freed himself.

McAfee then stood up, topless, and apologised to Clark before making his pick: for the Buckeyes to beat the Hawkeyes.

“Caitlin I apologize to be like this in front of you,” he said. “But when it calls, it calls, the football Gods have called for me to get shirtless in front of these fantastic people.

“And I’m gonna put my shirt back on, walk over to Kinnick, and watch the Ohio State Buckeyes get a huge win.

There’s no way the Buckeyes lose two games in the first five weeks, I love Iowa, I still think there’s a road to the playoffs… but today it’s O-H-I-O! I love you Caitlin, you’re the best.”

Clark had snubbed Fever exit interviews in order to fly to Iowa for her appearance on Gameday, while other teammates otped to speak to the media about the end of the season.

Kelsey Mitchell, who is due to enter free agency, admitted she has to be "selfish" when it comes to deciding her next move, hinting she may move on from Indiana.
