Altria (MO) yields 5.93% and BAT (BTI) yields 5.76%, but neither matches PM's double-digit revenue growth supporting faster dividend increases.

Philip Morris International (NYSE:PM) declared a quarterly dividend of $1.60 on Sept. 18, 2026. That is up from $1.47, a raise of 8.8%, and it lifts the annualized rate to $6.40. With shares at $204.54, the yield works out to about 3.1%. The yield has been contracted by the rally: the stock is up 30.83% year to date. Income investors now want to know whether PM's cash engine can keep paying for increases like this one.

PM Price Target — 24/7 Wall St.A Raise Streak Going Back to 2008
PM paid $0.46 per quarter in June 2008, just after its spin-off, and has raised the payout every year since. The recent steps were $1.20, $1.25, $1.27, $1.30, $1.35, $1.47, and now $1.60. The last two increases were bigger than anything PM paid out from 2019 through 2024. On the second-quarter call, then-CFO Emmanuel Babeau repeated the policy:
"We also remain a highly cash-generating business with an unwavering commitment to our progressive dividend policy and to returning value to shareholders."
Coverage Math Income Investors Need
Management raised its 2026 adjusted EPS guidance to $8.26 to $8.41. The $6.40 dividend takes up roughly 76% to 77% of that range. For 2025, operating cash flow of $12.233 billion minus $1.569 billion in capex left $10.664 billion of free cash flow. Dividends of $8.624 billion used about 81% of it.

The 2026 numbers point higher. PM is guiding to about $13.5 billion of operating cash flow and $1.4 to $1.6 billion of capex, with no buybacks planned. Babeau said:
"We continue to expect operating cash flow generation of around $13.5 billion, providing further flexibility to support both investment and continued attractive shareholder return."
Smoke-Free Products Drive Future Raises
Second-quarter revenue rose 10.4% to $11.19 billion. Adjusted EPS came in at $2.20, beating the $2.05 consensus. International smoke-free revenue grew 14.2%, and VEEV sales rose 55.1%. On June 30, the FDA granted modified-risk authorization to 20 ZYN versions. CEO Jacek Olczak said:

PM Earnings Explorer — 24/7 Wall St.
"Our global smoke-free portfolio is outgrowing the industry by a clear margin, driving positive total volumes, strong top-line growth and impressive margin expansion."
Debt and Currency Can Slow the Pace
Net debt stands at $43.1 billion, or 2.35x adjusted EBITDA. Management is aiming to get that close to 2.0x by year-end. Shareholders' equity is negative at -$6.657 billion. Currency moves cut both ways. Exchange rates should add about 15 cents to full-year EPS, but the third-quarter outlook includes an 8-cent hit. Management also called continued dollar strength an uncertainty.
How PM Stacks Up Against Altria and BAT
Altria Group (NYSE:MO) yields 5.93%. Its $4.24 dividend takes up about 87% of trailing GAAP EPS, and quarterly revenue grew only 1.2%. British American Tobacco (NYSE:BTI) yields 5.76% with a payout near 62%, but its revenue grew just 1.4%. PM pays the lowest yield of the three. It is also the only one growing its top line at a double-digit pace.
Verdict for Income Investors
PM can keep raising its dividend. Earnings and free cash flow both cover the payout, smoke-free sales are growing at double-digit rates, and debt is coming down. Today's buyers get a smaller starting yield than Altria or BAT in exchange for faster dividend growth. The appeal for income holders is a check that keeps rose without ever having to sell a share, which is the whole point of our free dividend ladder guide. Over the next few quarters, track whether net debt reaches the 2.0x target, how much the U.S. ZYN push costs, and where the dollar goes.
