Prince William has made no secret of his plans to sharpen up the monarchy when he makes it to the throne. And it seems he’s starting early. According to a source, the future king wants Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor “dealt with” following his recent arrest. That said, William is understood to still be on good terms with his cousins, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie.

Speaking to PEOPLE, royal biographer Andrew Lownie shared insight into how Prince William is handling the Andrew scandal behind the scenes.

“William wants it all cleaned out before he gets [on the throne],” the expert said. “He wants it dealt with now.”

To recap, the former Duke of York was arrested last month on suspicion of misconduct in a public office. This followed the release of the Jeffrey Epstein files, which included photos of Andrew as well as email communication. He has always denied any wrongdoing and was released from police custody pending investigation.

Nonetheless, the fallout is still being felt by the royals, including Andrew’s daughters.

“They are tarnished by this,” Ingrid Seward told PEOPLE. “It has affected their lives a great deal.”

“They’re caught between a rock and a hard place over loyalty to their parents and their future,” royal author Andrew added.

Luckily, King Charles is said to be “very fond” of his nieces. So there’s no sign that they’ll be exiled from the family.

Sarah Ferguson, on the other hand, has been MIA for months following the release of the Epstein files. The former Duchess of York was evicted from Royal Lodge along with her ex-husband. And she’s also been dropped by several charities and businesses she was previously associated with.
