Psychologist suggests world's smallest penis guy keep 'realistic expectations' after surgery

Michael Phillips, who is known to have the world's smallest penis, is scheduled to undergo a procedure to increase his phallus, and amid his upcoming procedure, there's much speculation about how it'll impact his life.

Plastic surgery doctors have explored possible health risks, likely outcomes, and potential benefits for Michael if he follows through with surgery, but mental health professionals have seldom weighed in. While it's understood that the procedure could change Michael's life for the better, the body modification might also affect his mental health in ways that are unexpected.

Dr. Elizabeth Lombardo revealed in an exclusive interview with The Mirror U.S. that Michael, who recently gave a plastic surgery update, might "take time" to adjust post-surgery.

"The surgery will change Michael's body, but whether it modifies the story he tells himself is unknown," Dr. Elizabeth shared. "When someone has spent many years feeling self-conscious about their body with likely negative messages about himself and his worth, that belief system does not always change when external circumstances do. And, if it does, it can take time."

The mental health expert also remarked that Michael's micro-penis condition "most likely led to a decrease in self-confidence," which means that he could have internalized self-deprecation.

"I do not know how it affected him specifically, but living with such a highly stigmatized physical characteristic most likely led to a decrease in self-confidence," Dr. Elizabeth shared.

She also added that "confidence is based on the stories that you tell yourself, not simply how you look. If Michael did experience rejection, embarrassment or shame, he may have internalized messages like 'there's something wrong with me' or 'I'm Not enough.'”

Along with the chance of improved self-esteem, Dr. Elizabeth further shared that while Michael's surgery could "positively impact his personal and romantic relationships," it won't "automatically" make him more confident.

"The procedure has the possibility of positively impacting his personal and romantic relationship, but it's important to realize that just changing this body part will not automatically change his sense of confidence and comfort in relationships," she divulged.

Dr. Elizabeth continued, "If, for example, he developed a thought that he was not worthy of being sexually desired, the surgery alone will not suddenly help him feel worthy and comfortable being vulnerable.

"Having said that, hopefully he is addressing his psychological well-being as well, such as working with a therapist or doing his own work to address his confidence and comfort being intimate."

Additionally, Dr. Elizabeth detailed what she "hoped" the surgery accomplished for Michael from a psychological standpoint.

"My hope is that he has realistic expectations regarding what the surgery itself can accomplish, as well as the work that he will need to do moving forward, independent of the surgery," she stated. "If there is a belief that the surgery will change everything for him and help him finally feel worthy, that is not realistic. Thinking the surgery will help improve his life and will be a great next step to cultivating personal and sexual relationships will be a more empowering belief as he moves through this next chapter."

Michael has currently raised over $13K through GoFundMe for his penis extension procedure that will enlarge his 0.38 inch manhood.
