Pub plans for former furniture store approved

A former furniture store will be turned into a pub after planning permission was granted.

The Yard pub is now planned for the former Finewood Studios store in Station Road, Mickleover, which closed in 2023.

Applicant Bloodstock Bars Limited - the firm behind the Spread Eagle pub in Etwall - told a Derby City Council planning meeting it had invested "significantly" to open a new bar inside the old store.

The project was given the green light by planners on Thursday.

Bloodstock Bars Limited applied to change the use of the former residential section of the building to a pub and build an extension, accommodating a bar seating area and cellar.

The applicant was forced to change an initial application, which included a beer garden, over noise concerns, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.

Speaking at the meeting, Sara Bolton, councillor for Blagreaves, said: "I very much welcome this scheme.

"Most people would walk there and get a taxi home if they are sensible about it.

"I see the council's highways officer has raised no objections."
