Robert Irvine is not a fan of Food Network‘s new Restaurant: Impossible series.
Restaurant: Impossible, which aired on Food Network from 2011 to 2023, followed Irvine as he helped restaurants across the country make some much-needed changes to secure the future of their businesses. The show’s new version, Restaurant Impossible: Last Call, debuted on Thursday, July 23, and stars chef Aarón Sánchez and restaurateur Jen Agg.
Much like Irvine’s original series, Last Call follows Sánchez and Agg as they “lead the charge to rescue struggling restaurants across North America,” per the show’s official description. “Their goal is not to formulate quick fixes; they will dig into real problems, adapt to a new and challenging restaurant industry, and find creative, unexpected solutions tailored to each business. While Jen tackles design and front-of-house issues, Aarón gets to work on the culinary side, each assessing exactly what needs to change for the restaurant to thrive.”
One day after the show’s premiere, Irvine took to X to share his candid thoughts on the new series. “Guys I can tell you that I won’t watch it because it was MY baby not the networks,” he wrote in a Friday, July 24, post. “Together Tom, Tanya, Lynn and all the volunteers did amazing work together. For people we never knew but got to become family after two days.. we all know the successful ones as we talk daily and weekly.. NH, CA and so many more.. I cherish and miss the whole team.”
He added, “More to come and smile/be proud of what we all did, or watched around the Globe. love you all and Happy Friday.”

Irvine also reacted to the show in a series of tweets on Thursday, including one that said Last Call “can’t beat the original” version of the show. “This show is a s*** attempt to cheapen and revive what was a popular show across the world,” he stated. “I don’t [blame] the people I blame the shameless network trying to take something so [successful] and setting them [up] for failure @FoodNetwork you made a bad decision!!!!! Sorry.”
One fan wrote in a tweet to Irvine, “If @RobertIrvine is not involved do NOT call it Restaurant Impossible. [PERIOD]. Get your OWN idea/show! #NotForMe.” He replied by writing, “I agree k made that show with the hell if a great team for 15 yrs and now @food is ruining the legacy and making a mockery of the talent.”
Another fan asked, “What Is this new Restaurant Impossible I’m seeing that isn’t you?!” Irvine responded, “Yes Steve the choice to film in. Amass which I refused because they wanted a new crew, builder, designer etc. I’m loyal and said no so on they go to ruin a iconic show shame on them for tax credits.”
Agg opened up about working on Last Call in an interview with TV Insider ahead of the show’s premiere. “Restaurants are struggling right now. Our approach is going to be to dig into the why, aside from obvious economic pressures,” she stated. “My favorite part has been seeing the owners who are sometimes deeply in debt and really unsure about what to do, and not ready to trust us. By the end, they are fully on board.”
