See the lineup as the Phillies are looking to become just the second team since 2022 to win a best-of-three Wild Card series after losing Game 1.

The Philadelphia Phillies will send ace Cristopher Sanchez to the mound in an elimination game Sept. 30 at Truist Park against the Atlanta Braves.

The Phillies are looking to become just the second team to win a best-of-three Wild Card series after losing Game 1 since the expanded postseason format involving three wild-card teams went into place in 2022. The team is also in search of its first postseason series win since 2023.

The task became far more difficult Sept. 29 when Jhoan Duran allowed a three-run Austin Riley home run in the bottom of the eighth inning that propelled the Braves to a 5-3 victory in Game 1.

The Phillies received a valiant effort from Jesus Luzardo, who covered five innings and allowed only one run in his first start since Sept. 7 due to shoulder stiffness. The Phillies chased Braves ace Chris Sale after 6⅓ innings and took a 3-2 lead on J.T. Realmuto's two-run triple off rookie reliever Didier Fuentes.

That prompted the entrance of the team's closer, Duran, in the seventh inning. He recorded five consecutive outs before allowing an infield single to Michael Harris and hitting Ozzie Albies. Then Riley's home run flipped the game.

Sanchez compiled an 18-7 record, a 2.91 ERA and a career-best 231 strikeouts over 33 starts and 207 innings this season. He has a 2.79 ERA in four career postseason starts.

Sanchez will be opposed by Tyler Mahle. The 32-year-old right hander posted a 3.99 ERA in 27 starts this season.
