All the President's Men premiered in 1976, starring Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman
The film, which highlighted the Watergate scandal, won four Oscars and was added to the United States National Film Registry in 2010
Multiple cast members of the classic movie have since died, including Redford and Hal Holbrook
It's been half a century since Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman brought the real-life Watergate scandal to the big screen.
All the President's Men starred the legendary actors as Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein, respectively, journalists who investigated the 1972 break-in at the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and uncovered the sweeping cover-up that ultimately led to President Richard Nixonās resignation.
The 1976 political thriller won four Oscars ā including an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for Jason Robards ā and was added to the United States National Film Registry in 2010.
After the film's premiere, its stars continued to build lasting careers in Hollywood and beyond, many becoming industry icons in their own right.

Dustin Hoffman as Carl Bernstein

By the time All the President's Men came out, Hoffman was already a household name and an Academy Award nominee.
His storied career would go on to include more classic films like Rain Man, Tootsie and Kramer vs. Kramer, as well as more accolades, including five Golden Globes and two Oscars.
He's continued to work, appearing most recently in the 2024 Francis Ford Coppola film Megalopolis. Next, he stars in the 2026 crime drama Tuner.
Off-screen, he's welcomed six children: two with his ex-wife, ballerina and actress Anne Byrne, and four with his wife, Lisa, whom he married in 1980.

A long-established Hollywood heartthrob, Redford's influential role in the political film was just one of many he would go on to hold ā including those behind the screen. He won his first Academy Award in 1981 for directing the family drama Ordinary People.
Though the All the President's Men star continued to act in movies like The Natural and Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Redford also established a career as a director and executive producer.
He shared four children with his first wife, Lola Van Wagenen, two of whom died.
On Sept. 16, 2025, Redford died in his sleep at his home in Utah. He was 89 years old.

Hal Holbrook as Deep Throat

Though his face is hardly visible, Hal Holbrook played one of the film's most iconic characters. After starring as the legendary anonymous source, he continued to appear in movies like Capricorn One and series like Evening Shade.
In 2007, the then-82-year-old became the oldest person ever nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for the movie Into the Wild. He also won five Emmys for his roles in Pueblo, The Bold Ones: The Senator, The West Wing and Designing Women.

He was most well-known, however, for his Tony-winning portrayal of writer Mark Twain in his one-man show Mark Twain Tonight!.
Holbrook had three children and two stepdaughters and was married to his Designing Women costar, Dixie Carter, for 26 years until her death in 2010. He died on Jan. 23, 2021, at the age of 95.

Jack Warden played Harry M. Rosenfeld, the editor in charge of local news at The Washington Post during the Watergate scandal.
Already known for his breakout performance in 12 Angry Men, the All the President's Men star continued to land notable roles in classics like Being There and While You Were Sleeping.
The Emmy-winning actor died on July 19, 2006, at the age of 85, per CBS. Warden was survived by his son, Christopher.

Martin Balsam as Howard Simons

In the 1976 film, Martin Balsam portrayed Washington Post managing editor Howard Simons.
The Oscar and Tony-winning character actor had already made a name for himself in Psycho, Murder on the Orient Express and 12 Angry Men by the time All the President's Men came out. He continued to act on the big and small screen, including a four-year stint on Archie Bunker's Place in the 1980s.
Balsam welcomed three kids over the course of his three marriages and died of a stroke while vacationing in Rome on Feb. 13, 1996, according to The New York Times. He was 76.

Jason Robards as Ben Bradlee

Robards was already a beloved Tony Award-winning Broadway star when All the President's Men premiered in 1976.
He starred as Ben Bradlee, and the role of the Washington Post editor earned him the first of back-to-back Academy Awards for Best Supporting Actor. He took home the trophy for his role in Julia the following year.
Off-screen, he was father to six children from four marriages, including his wife Lois O'Connor and ex-wife actress Lauren Bacall. Robards died on Dec. 26, 2000, of complications from cancer, per The New York Times. He was 78.

All the President's Men is just one of many classic titles in which two-time Emmy Award-winning actress Jane Alexander has appeared.
The actress landed roles in Testament, The Cider House Rules and Kramer vs. Kramer as well as hit shows like The Good Wife and Severance.
She's still an active presence in Hollywood, with Variety reporting in April 2026 that she was set to star in the comedy-spy drama Lillian, Next Door. Alexander told the outlet that she's wanted to "play a female spy for years."
