Why Prince Harry Reportedly Plans to Return to the U.K. “a Lot More” in the Coming Months

Prince Harry was reportedly left “energized” after a visit in July with his father, King Charles.

The Duke of Sussex has plans to visit his home country “a lot more” in the coming year, as he “wants more of a foothold” in the U.K., according to a new report from The Times.

Plus, a source added, “he always loves seeing his family.”

Last month, Prince Harry, his wife Meghan Markle, and their children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet met with Harry’s father King Charles at the monarch’s country home, Highgrove House. The meeting—where Queen Camilla was also present—left Harry so “energized,” according to a new report, that he would like to return to the U.K. “every few months.”

A new report from The Times indicates that the Duke of Sussex plans to return “more and more” to his home country over the next year—including in September, when he will visit the U.K. on behalf of his patronage, WellChild. For that visit, Harry plans to be in the U.K. for about a week, according to the outlet, which noted that “No decision has yet been made” on whether Meghan and the children will join him for that trip.

After the Sussexes met with the king and queen—the first time Meghan, Archie, and Lilibet had visited the U.K. in four years, since 2022—Harry was said to have been left “buoyed, very happy, and really energized.” The Sussex family’s U.K. visit also included a stop at Althorp, the ancestral home of Princess Diana’s birth family, the Spencers. She is buried there, and the estate is run by her younger brother, Charles Spencer.

According to The Times, Harry wants to make more frequent trips to the U.K. to see his father and the wider royal family more frequently, as well as “more effectively” support his U.K.-based charities if he is there in person.

“The template for his visits has been working well, so the frequency of trips will increase, especially in the run-up to Invictus, which he’s determined to make the best Games yet,” a source close to Harry told The Times, referring to the next interaction of his Invictus Games, slated for July 2027 in Birmingham, England. “So he’ll be coming back and forth a lot more, every few months.”

The insider added, “The way the wind is blowing, he’s going to want to be here more and more. He’s happy these trips can now have more focus on the patronages and be less obscured by the other nonsense. He wants more of a foothold here, more trips back, less courtroom drama. And he always loves seeing his family.”

Harry continues to battle with the Home Office to have his security reviewed after losing a legal battle with the U.K. government in 2025 to have his automatic police protection reinstated while in his home country. Harry and Meghan gave up their taxpayer-funded security when they stepped back as working royals in 2020.

As for Harry’s September visit, it’s unknown whether he will see the king, as Charles will still be at Balmoral in Scotland at that time, according to The Times. And what of Harry’s brother, Prince William, who he hasn’t thought to have spoken with since 2022? Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond told The Mirror that “William, as far as we can see, seems set on concentrating on his own family and his work without the angst of dealing with his rift with Harry.”

“But if Harry does start to come to the U.K. more often and to see their father, it’s going to become increasingly hard for William to ignore the situation,” she noted, adding of the current frost between the brothers that “circumstances and feelings can change with time and so, as I always say, ‘Never say never.’”

She continued, “There’s no doubt that Charles would very much like things to be different. And it does seem as if Harry is pretty intent on patching up his troubled relationship with his father.” But, Bond said, “it’s still a question of baby steps, and Harry’s life remains thousands of miles away in California.”

“Charles has to walk many a tightrope in his life—most of them to do with the diplomatic role that comes with being king,” Bond added. “But he is also having to walk a tightrope in his family life as he edges closer to a working relationship with Harry—without upsetting William. And that’s a very awkward situation for a father to be in.”
