Since debuting on Netflix in 2020, *Alice in Borderland* has become one of the streamer's biggest hits. Based on Haro Aso's manga of the same name, the Japanese sci-fi thriller takes viewers to a twisted version of Tokyo where players must survive sadistic games, each related to a suit from a deck of cards.

Even after three seasons, the series still delivers unexpected twists and gut-punches. Season 3 premiered on Thursday, Sept. 25, and although the finale ties up many loose ends, it also provides plenty of opportunity for the story to continue.

But will the series actually return for a fourth season? Here's everything we know about *Alice in Borderland *season 4.

Netflix hasn't officially renewed *Alice in Borderland *for a fourth season yet, but the stars are already looking ahead. In fact, stars Kento Yamazaki and Tao Tsuchiya recently spoke with *The Hollywood Reporter* about their thoughts on returning for a potential season 4 or even a spinoff.

"I am a fan of the show myself, and to be able to make season three comes with a bit of pressure as well because it's so beloved by the global audience," Yamazaki said. "But we have such an incredible team that I was just filled with joy on set. And of course if it's going to continue in some way, I'll be very much keen to be part of that."

Tsuchiya added, "When season two wrapped up, I felt like that was a great way to finish the story, so I was kind of surprised when they presented season three to me! Thinking ahead, obviously in this season... [Usagi is] pregnant, so there's going to be a child in the future, and she would love to see that child return [to the normal world], not just the two lead characters. The story is set to be familial. I think that could be really interesting."

Director Shinsuke Sato echoed their enthusiasm when asked if he'd come back to direct future seasons, telling RadioTimes, "If you're asking me whether I'd be interested or not, I would certainly say yes."

What happened at the end of *Alice in Borderland *season 3?

Arisu and Usagi (now married and expecting a baby) once again make it out of Borderland, but not before encountering yet another life-or-death situation. Arisu sacrifices himself in the last game, but this act of selflessness is what wins.

Chaos soon erupts around Shibuya Crossing, and a massive flood consumes everything. But Arisu manages to save Usagi and the others. In the end, he's pulled into a surreal encounter with the Watchman (Ken Watanabe).

The Watchman challenges Arisu with a card game, and Arisu correctly guesses that both cards are Jokers. He then assumes the Watchman is the Joker, prompting the former to reveal, "The Joker isn't a person. It's neither the ruler of this world nor the master of these games. It's simply a card."

After that, Arisu must choose whether to remain in the domain of death or return to reality. Of course, he goes with the latter and happily reunites with Usagi.

Just as everything seems to wrap up perfectly, the final scene reveals that earthquakes are destroying the world. The episode then cuts to Los Angeles, where a waitress named Alice serves customers while news of the destruction plays on TV. Well, it seems there's a possibility that *Alice in Borderland* may follow in the footsteps of *Squid Game *and take the story to the United States.

What will season 4 of *Alice in Borderland *be about?

Since an *Alice in Borderland *season 4 renewal hasn't officially been ordered, the story remains a mystery. But in a recent interview with RadioTimes, Tsuchiya shared an idea that she had to continue Arisu and Usagi's journey.

"I have a premise where the child will find themselves in Borderland and the parents have to go in and save them. The kids don't understand the world at all but then the parents do," she explained. "From the kids' point of view, they'll question, 'Who are you? Are you my parents? Why do you understand all of this?' There's a sense of suspicion that comes from that. Through the games, they help each other as parent and child, which reaffirms how beautiful family is."

She continued, "If it were a one-off show or film, then it would be us clearing the games by ourselves, without a child. But this is something that’s possible because it’s a show over a couple of seasons. We'd love for our own life experiences that come with our age to be projected into the story. I'm holding my hand out into the ether and hope one of the producers will be listening!"
